Review – Left 4 Dead 2

Finally, it is here. The most hated and most expected game. The launch was delayed, like usually, but fortunately only few hours, not months or years :) The game is here. And ready to be played. Are you ready to survive?

Left 4 Dead 2 has new and really cool features, but game itself is filled with several bugs. You may get stuck inside a wall/table or and cannot move! Your AI controlled team members are morons of the year and do not always stick with you, so can happen that if you are incapacitated, you’ll watch your player to be totally wiped out, because AI bots cannot calculate the right way and will not come to rescue you! When somebody starts a fire, your AI controlled moron may walk right inside that fire and start screaming in pain and lose hitpoints! You probably remember that video that was posted here before, where human player fell over the edge of balcony and team of morons came to “help” him up, two of them stumbled and fell over the edge too and then the last AI idiot jumped over the edge and fell down, I mean totally down. And similar things happen very often. I think that Valve polished their Director so much but didn’t even try to make AI controlled bots smarter and competitive.

Single player (also multiplayer, if teammates are AI controlled) drives you nuts because of those idiot bots and bugs. Multiplayer is pretty okay, it has 5 of different multiplayer game types (co-op campaign, realism, versus, survival and scavenge) and it’s fun to play.

The game is definitely worth owning/playing. If you’re in Tier 1, then ask your Tier 2/UK friend to make a Christmas gift or simply wait for the weekend deal or other good deals. Or if you really hate your wallet, you can buy this game for 50€. But just look at the screens or play the demo and you will see, it is a pretty damn good game.

But enough of whining, let’s get to the cake! :)

Left 4 Dead 2 launch time?

You can read from Left 4 Dead 2 blog following: Due to an ongoing debate in the office and online as to whether "12 AM" means noon or midnight (we're still sticking with midnight), it's been more challenging than we realized to tell people when exactly our game will be available. Factor in the Earth rotating around the sun, daylight savings time, some of our fans insisting on using the Mayan calendar, and we're just going to try and make this as specific as possible: When L4D2 will go live: Tuesday, November 17th, 12:00 AM (midnight) Eastern Standard Time Monday, November 16th, 9:00 PM Pacific Standard Time Monday, November 16th, 10:00 PM Mountain Standard Time Monday, November 16th, 11:00 PM Central Standard Time Tuesday, November 17th, 12:00 AM (midnight) Eastern Standard Time Tuesday, November 17th, 5:00 AM Greenwich Mean Time Tuesday, November 17th, 8:00 AM Moscow Time Tuesday, November 17th, 2:00 PM Japan Standard Time [fusion_builder_container hundred_percent="yes" overflow="visible"][fusion_builder_row][fusion_builder_column type="1_1" background_position="left top" background_color="" border_size="" border_color="" border_style="solid" spacing="yes" background_image="" background_repeat="no-repeat" padding="" margin_top="0px" margin_bottom="0px" class="" id="" animation_type="" animation_speed="0.3" animation_direction="left" hide_on_mobile="no" center_content="no" min_height="none"][/fusion_builder_column][/fusion_builder_row][/fusion_builder_container]

L4D2 Pre-Purchase unfair regional pricing

If you are thinking about pre-purchasing L4D2, you should think twice, as you might be yet another victim of Valve's regional pricing scam. Previously only differing the price between US Dollar, Euro and British Pound, they now topped it by even discriminating between the European countries. So we not only have the well known unfair price difference between Dollar, Euro and Pound: US L4D2 Pre-Purchase: $44.99 EU L4D2 Pre-Purchase: 44,99€ UK L4D2 Pre-Purchase: £26.99 but also differences between european contries: Germany, France, Netherlands, Denmark, Finland, Sweden and a lot of others pay the high, unfair price of 44,99€ (L4D2) http://store.steampowered.com/app/550/?cc=de (or /?cc= fr, nl, dk, fi, se..) while countries like: Poland, Norway, Italy, Spain, Lithuania and a few other - for incomprehensible reasons -, pay a much cheaper price of 34,19€, which is only slightly more than the UK price in Euro! http://store.steampowered.com/app/550/?cc=pl Thats a price difference of 10€ or even 20€ less when buying a bundle of four L4D2 copies. Workarounds: 1.) Gifting cheap games to friends in an expensive, foreign region is thankfully still possible, eventhough it probably won't be for long, judging from recent developements. So have a good foreign friend who lives in a cheap priced…

Left 4 Dead 2 Demo coming next month!

At a press conference held earlier today in Tokyo, EA took to the stage and revealed that a playable demo for Left 4 Dead 2 will be out next month. It's dated for October 27, and that's all that was discussed. Not which platform that was for, not whether it was for pre-order customers or everyone, which map it was, nothing. That info will have to wait, it seems! Left 4 Dead 2: New Orleans was chosen for a reason

Valve’s Chet Faliszek has said that the reason it chose New Orleans as the location in Left 4 Dead 2 had more to do with the east coat of the US not being used in games much, this making it a fresh locale. “We still wanted it to be on the East coast, a bunch of us are from the area,” he told Planet Half-Life. “It’s an interesting place that is not covered in a lot of video games. There’s not a lot of video games that go down to the deep south, through the Savanna and New Orleans. There’s a lot of cool gameplay there, there’s a lot of cool areas. You can be in the swamps, the Savanna or New Orleans, it’s a beautiful city. “It seemed like a good opportunity to go through there, so we jumped on it.” Don’t forget that the deep south can be a very mysterious place, what with all the live oaks littered with Spanish moss fluttering in the breeze; the humid heaviness of the air; the thick essence of jasmine and wisteria wafting through your nostrils; toothy zombies just gagging to sink rotting fangs into you. Great place it is. Source:…

Depeche Mode music in Left 4 Dead 2

Some time ago we find out that the Left 4 Dead 2 will have many references to the band Depeche Mode, including their music. The band's manager decided to explain this weird idea. It is not difficult to imagine that it's all about the money. Johnathan Kessler explains that the purpose of implementing the band's music in Left 4 Dead 2 is an attempt to broaden the audience of their music and to attract younger listeners. However the strange thing is, Kessler said that there are currently no plans to release any tracks or other stuff on Guitar Hero or Rock Band. Source: Video Gaming 24/7

L4D2 Boycott group leader visits Valve

Boycotting Left 4 Dead 2? Think again. Initiator of the whole protest was invited by Valve to their studio (all expenses paid), he could see with his own eyes how the game looks like. The result? He's delighted. Valve invited (and paid for flights and hotels needed to carry out this tour) the Steam user Walking_Target to Valve headquarters. They presented Left 4 Dead 2 in its current condition and after that had a bit of friendly chat. What does the boycott group leader think about the game? Here's a quote: "The high quality of the game is not in doubt and I am confident that it will be even better." What do you think? Is the game really good or is that guy just a sell out?

You can pre-order Left 4 Dead 2 on Amazon for nearly $45. I wonder how many of you are going to pre-order it? ;) The game will be released on November 17, 2009 – probably worldwide on Steam and maybe with a demo version few days before. Left 4 Dead 2 is an upcoming sequel to Valve Corporation's Left 4 Dead. It will build upon the cooperative first-person shooter gameplay of the original and will be using Valve's proprietary Source engine, the same game engine as Left 4 Dead. The game made its world premiere at E3 2009 with a trailer during the Microsoft press event, and is scheduled for released for Microsoft Windows PC and Xbox 360. Left 4 Dead: Crash Course is coming!

A new DLC for Left 4 Dead was just announced today! What will we get (for free*) this time? The new campaign will give us single-player, multiplayer and co-op gameplay modes. It’s going to be released in September. The campaign fills out the gap between “No Mercy” and “Death Toll” campaign – we’ll see new locations, new voiceovers (by original cast) and exciting finale. Also there will be some bug and balance fixes as well (like item spawn changes). You can read more about it on the official Steam page. *PC Gamers only.

Left 4 Dead 2 has bulletproof zombies

Most of you probably know that Valve Corporation is currently showing off Left 4 Dead 2 at the Comic-Con in California. One of the most interesting announcements was that the zombies will be bulletproof in the sequel. It seems that the enemies are more varied this time – there are several new types of enemies including special Boomer-like bosses, Hazmat-suited fireproof zombies and zombies wearing Kevlars. The ‘Kevlars’ can only be killed from a short distance and only in their unshielded backs so run and gun won’t be such a good idea now. All of those new features were showed in the Parish level (that’s the first level everyone seen few weeks ago when Left 4 Dead 2 was just announced) with considerable more aggressive AI director. Stay tuned for more Left 4 Dead 2 news.

Left 4 Dead 2 – preview

...While there are plenty of subtle changes that fans will notice, the meat of the game is exactly the same as before. You play in a team of four through various movie-inspired levels, taking on the zombie horde that stand between you and your extraction. The concept is simple: If you stick together, it's easier to stay alive, but if you play as a lone gunman, you'll die faster while sabotaging your team. The level we played was called The Parish and followed on from the same mission that we saw at E3 exactly one month ago. Like the original Left 4 Dead, each level is presented with a movie poster, and this level's tagline was "This time it all goes South." It's a reference to the level's location in New Orleans, where you fight it out in a suburban setting before crossing a bridge to make it to an escape helicopter...
