The Secret World won’t be coming to Steam, subscription fee priced badly in Europe (especially UK)

Hey guys, after all that Diablo 3 fiasco (really, really stupid game, broken core, items, drop system etc) I was looking for something cool and brand new to play with.

I stumbled upon The Secret World (coming out very soon, sometime in July I think) – MMORPG from developer Funcom (makers of Anarchy Online and Age of Conan: Hyborian Adventures). The game will feature an original setting, with contemporary elements as well as magic, myths, conspiracies and dark horrors. There are no aliens or sci-fi elements in it.

So… I decided to ask a few question to the game’s support crew.

I’ve basically asked what we all want to know: is it coming to Steam and what are the prices (if any) for the monthly subscription fee (there’s no info on Origin or the net, at least I didn’t find it).

Here’s what they sent me:

So basically I replied with:

I know I know, there is VAT in Europe but look at UK pricing, what the fuck?

I will post if I get anything from them.

Update:

Apparently they changed the UK pricing after all (it’s £11.49 which is $17.94 now according to Google – still overpriced…):

@gamekeydistrict: With no disprespect to you I think you have no Idea about how to eat because iam fat. Same level of argumentation. C’mon You rly dont have to be economics student to understand how vat works. We know it…the point is that WE DONT GIVE A FUCK. If vat is too high then its seller job to lower the price or he will sell less games etc. And they can sell games for less (look russia). But they are motherfuckers and they make TRASHY games and sells them for only 59.99 with fucking vat k?

Actually, Norway recently introduced VAT on digital purchases.
But it’s not like the prices changed. Now Norway gets 25% of the money spent instead of the sellers cashing in 25% extra.

GAYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY! Your argument is invalid. I don’t care about VAT and other “thrash” taxes.

You should think about your country,If you are in UK then you need to pay VAT 20% thats it end of the story.Who said gamers dont care abt VAT.ITs your personal opininon and doesnt includes opinions of other gamers.

I am a gamer myself and I know the importance of VAT since I am a economics student as well

Gamers around the world don’t give a fuck about VAT differences. The company should do whatever it takes to equal the prices around the globe. If the VAT is 25% the price should be 25% lower. I know that sounds ridiculous from the business perspective but I really don’t give a shit.

Also some European countries are not even in the Euro zone or even the European Union yet still I bet they will charge them 14.99€. Norway for example doesn’t even have VAT for digital purchases and they will charge them that % of money.

Well, VAT on software in EU is between 15-25%.
In this case, seller is going to increase EUR prices by exactly 25% and calls it ‘VAT’.

Not being a steam release is not a problem, it doesn’t need to be.
    Pricing is a real issue.
It’s sadly funny that even it’s not available on steam, it still use the same pricing policy :(
