Games Rocket is shutting down!

Oh dear, another Steam alternative store, from Germany, is closing later this month. It’s really sad to see another store go in such short period of time. More info below.

“It was a hard decision for us, but Gamesrocket GmbH was liquidated on December 31st 2016. Gamesrocket was founded in October 2010 located in Aschaffenburg, Germany and it was our goal to pass on our passion for games to our customers. Since then we offer a variety of games, software and gamecards.

Over time we’ve established close and trusting partnerships to our publishers and official distributors. It was always a pleasure working with you and we want to thank all our partners for the collaboration.

The bitter truth is that the market and the general conditions haven’t developed like we had forecasted it in 2010. As an official licensed software partner, you receive terms which are not as good as in traditional physical trade. Unfortunately, this hasn’t changed much in the past years. Other international resellers get their codes in digital form easily from PC wholesalers. The growth of the market is determined by EU foreign competitors with aggressive price positioning, who don’t include value added tax to their prices. Many publisher of PC games struggle to approach this issue. These circumstances make it even more difficult to stay profitable with official digital reselling of video games with a registered office in Europe.

In the end, it was a strategic decision to discontinue the ongoing business in its current form. It was a free entrepreneurial decision and current contracts with the employees will be fulfilled. The employees of Gamesrocket were informed at an early stage. We want to thank all our current and former employees for their contribution during the past six years.

Gamesrocket shops will sell until January 31st 2017. Starting on February 1st customers will have the chance to gain access to their download files and create a backup copy of them. This access will last for the whole month of February…

Quick look at Punch Club

Hey guys, here’s another quick look at – this time it’s an awesome indie game Punch Club.

Punch Club 08-04-2016 10-45-05-960

I really like the humor in this one for some reason. The main goal in the game is to train hard and become a badass fighter.

First you need to do some jobs, like deliver pizza, work at construction site etc. although you don’t really do any of these on your own, you just watch your character do the job and earn money while your bars decrease. What bars? It’s just like in The Sims series, you have 4 bars that you have to take care of: health, food, happiness and strength. You need to maintain those in a nice balance to be able to work, fight and exercise.

Here’s the first 20 minutes of gameplay:

As you see on the video you need to buy food at the grocery store, sleep and do some other stuff to survive – all that while waiting for various fighting leagues to start, where you can fight some skilled opponents.

Punch Club 08-04-2016 10-49-48-562

When it comes to fighting you need to plan it and put the right skills in the Active skills area – depending on your opponent’s skills. At first you only have 3 skills: punch, block and dodge. You will earn more of these gradually as the game progresses.

Couple of screenshots here:

The game runs extremely smooth as it’s just classic 2D game. It should run just fine even on old potato laptops.

I wasn’t expecting this title to be this fun :D by looking at screenshots I thought it would be some sort of Double Dragon copy but I was wrong. It’s a really nice turn based game that everyone should try.

Thanks to Games Rocket for providing me with a copy of the game for testing!

Quick look at Shooting Stars!

Here’s something new and crazy. Shooting Stars by Daedalic is a wacky arcade shoot’em up and the answer to one of the most important questions in life: “I can haz lazer kitty?“ Cats with rainbow lazers, Kanye East, Justin Belieber und Han so low are in it, too!

Desktop 15-01-2016 17-30-38-813

This is a game where you can literally shoot PewDiePie (pic above!). This one thing makes it enjoyable! Other than that you can kill lots of famous people (their names are all changed though) and capture various power ups like this rainbow ray of love:

At first I’ve tried to play this with my Xbox 360 controller but it was unplayable, mouse FTW. Here are some screenshots. The game seems to be locked at 45 FPS by the way but it still work smooth enough on 120Hz screen.

There’s really not much to say here, if you like Galaga or something old school you gotta have this one. Here’s another short video :P

Quick Look at – Thea: The Awakening

Here’s a quick look at the brand new early access game – Thea: The Awakening. Just got a copy for testing and it’s a really nice game with elements of Civilization series and more. Check it out!

The game is pretty simple. You have to take care of your mortal villagers and help them survive in the dangerous world of Thea. The whole story is set in a Slavic mythology and to me names like Baba Yaga or Striga make sense and sound familiar. You have only a few hopeless and starving survivors who are desperately trying to stay alive in the world destroyed by The Darkness.

You can choose to stay in your village and build up defenses or you can go out and explore. Conflicts can be resolved through diplomacy, hunting, and various other ways depending on the skills.

Each playthrough is a new random map so it’s always different and isn’t that repetitive.

The game is turn-based, that’s why it reminds me of Civilization but it is kind of different. Here is a quick gameplay video of like half an hour of me trying to figure out what the hell is going on :D

I’m really bad at this but I really liked the part where you had to pick cards during fight with random bots on the map, again I had no clue what I was doing (just like that card game in The Witcher 3 :D) but it was fun. If you are looking for a nice fantasy-themed strategy you should give this game a try.

Thanks to Games Rocket for providing me with a copy of the game for testing!

Check out Thea: The Awakening on Games Rocket for €16.49

Quick Look at PixelJunk™ Shooter Ultimate

You guys know that I’ve been sick lately and PixelJunk™ Shooter Ultimate is a perfect game just for that! Especially when you like playing with the Xbox controller on your PC in your bed. I’ve used to play this game back when I had PS3 but this one runs so much nicer and smoother on a good old PC. It’s integrated with Steam naturally.

Quick Look At PixelJunk Shooter Ultimate

What’s the game all about? You play with a little space ship where you have to rescue scientists scattered across the levels. The physics in game are fantastic! You basically have to push or drop water onto lava or the other way around, blast through rocks, grab huge blocks of ice, detonate explosive gas. The game is powered by an advanced engine that provides dynamic fluid simulation.

Here is my first couple of minutes from the game, sorry for being lame:

The FPS seems to be capped at 60 but that’s not a big deal when it comes to games like this one. It’s smooth enough. Here are some screenshots:

Probably the best thing about this title is that you can play coop locally with your buddy, girlfriend, roommate or whoever you got there. If you don’t have two Xbox controllers you can just play with keyboard and mouse (at least one player needs to have a controller though).

It’s really fun to play in coop but I don’t really get why they didn’t make the Adventure Mode playable in coop online, it’s local only. Just like the guys responsible for LEGO games – all of their games are amazing in coop but lack the online functionality (or even LAN).

The game does have an online mode but it’s just player vs player so it’s not something like a campaign.

Summing up if you’re looking for some little fun game to play once in a while this is a great title to get what you need. Over 150 levels to play with, local coop gameplay and nice action mixed with puzzles and physics. The game has Steam achievements and cards.

Thanks to Games Rocket for providing me with a copy of the game for testing!

Check out PixelJunk™ Shooter Ultimate on Games Rocket for €8.95.

Quick look at Shadowrun Chronicles thanks to Games Rocket!

Just got another game from Games Rocket for testing – this time it’s Shadowrun Chronicles, an Early Access game developed by Cliffhanger Productions and published by Nordic Games GmbH as part of Jordan Weisman’s Shadowrun fictional universe. The game was crowdfunded on Kickstarter.

Shadowrun 2015-04-24 13-58-48-84

The game is a tactical action RPG in isometric 3D. It has a single player mode and 4-player co-op mode as well which is probably why I’m into this game at all – I play coop games mostly because it’s always fun to play with people you know rather than random noobs on the net. The game features the action map, where a group executes missions turn-based, and the meta game, with a city map where the mission preparations, crafting of software, and character management takes place.

The character customization screen is pretty nice, you can select from different races, sex and general appearance like skin color etc.

Shadowrun 2015-04-24 13-40-28-50

Shadowrun 2015-04-24 13-37-29-69

Here’s a look at the city you spawn in:

Shadowrun 2015-04-24 13-59-12-50

It can be quite confusing at first but you just gotta walk around the place and listen to the NPCs in there. Other games are wandering there as well. Once you’re ready to go for a mission click on the Top Notch Cab and here’s the map:

Shadowrun 2015-04-24 13-40-49-04

And a quick glance at the first mission, here’s a short gameplay to show you how it looks like. To me it’s something like XCOM I guess, where you have to run from spot to spot and use covers to kill efficiently.

Sorry for the noob gameplay, I have no idea what I’m doing but it is fun I guess. Just gotta get used to the game mechanics. I’m sure I will get back to this title as soon as I get GTA V out of my head… which could take a while.

It’s safe to say that this title is going to get a lot of support in the future, I’m actually getting an update as I write this :)

Shadowrun Chronicles Update

And special thanks to Games Rocket for providing me with a copy of the game for testing!

You can buy Shadowrun Chronicles on Games Rocket by clicking here. It’s €29,95 for the standard edition and €46,49 for the Deluxe Package.

Quick look at Heroes of The Storm, beta key giveaway!

I just got a key from one of our partners at Games Rocket and decided to share some info on the latest Blizzard game – Heroes of The Storm. First of all if you haven’t heard about it earlier (like myself, somehow…) it’s a combination of heroes from Warcraft, Diablo, StarCraft. Which sounds interesting.

Heroes of The Storm LOGO

It’s a DOTA style game so you can imagine how many gamers worldwide are interested in this title. The game is going to be Free 2 Play and obviously it’s going to have lots of micro transactions. Right now in the beta, you can spend in-game currency or real-life money. The games is only 4GB if that matters at all and of course it’s downloadable through the’s client.

Here are a couple of screenshots:

HeroesOfTheStorm_x64 2015-04-13 14-24-46-93

The game starts with a fun little tutorial, where a Star Craft II character – Jim Raynor – gets sucked into into the “Nexus” where he’s introduced to Warcraft’s Uther the Lightbringer. They fight Diablo and it’s pretty funny! You’ll learn how to use each of your hero powers, as well as the idea of cores, towers, and minions. Just like any MOBA game there are three paths, with towers and gates to clear out, with waves of minions coming through each lane. The main difference between DOTA 2 or League of Legends is that Heroes is built on speed. You don’t even have to worry about gold and items.

HeroesOfTheStorm_x64 2015-04-13 14-28-55-93

I’m pretty sure all Blizzard fans will love the idea of pitting their favorite characters against each other.

I have one key for the game to giveaway thanks to:
