That kid isn’t 15 years old and he’s asking for a violent murder-simulator ?? JAILLLL!!
jokin’ :D
Half-Life 1 had the exact same ratings (=> Half-Life 1 and 2 ratings available on Wikipedia) and I remember playing it when I was around 10-11 years old at an “informatic club” :D
when it was the “official” 2 hours, I was playing Half-Life 1 single-player adventure ; when the official time was over, all the other kids left the place and some friends (highschoolers and students) of the guy running the place replace them, and we were doing some LAN of Counter-Strike (back when it was an excellent mod :D) (and rapidly, my bro who heard about that opportunity to play games for free for hours joined us)
It was one of the most epic moment of my gaming life – it’s when I discovered Half-Life, PC Gaming, modding, filesharing (at LAN), emulators (playing Metal Slug for free !) and the “gaming community”. Quit the “too young to play games” BS please :p
The official ratings and what we find acceptable for young kids is million-years away from the reality : when we played “war” (“cowboys vs indians” or whatever how you called it), it wasn’t that far from what you see in the vast majority of games.
Kids learn about death very early on (mortality – the fact he and his parents are mortals), even if they don’t experience the loss of a grand-parents or a pet in the early state of childhood. In Half-Life (or in 99% of other games), you click, bang bang, the bad guys are dead, there’s a little texture of blood on the model and on the ground, job’s done.
=> Extreme Pain ? Wounded person ? Slowly dying person ? Tears ?
=> Lots of blood ? Open wounds ? Dismemberment ?
Most games don’t have that at all, death is really “okay” in the video game world.
The only games I remember making me feel “woaw. that’s fucked up.” were
– the cries of the scared vietcongs (in Vietcong) when you throw a grenade in their hole in their tunnel system, as they can’t escape fast enough, and if they still manage that, you’ll shoot them when they rush out of their nest (the excellent immersion helps sure)
– the burning enemies in Gore (the only game featuring credible flamethrower mechanics),
– the gore in Soldier of Fortune 2 (especially with the Daewoo USAS-12 auto-shotgun)Back on topic, that kid should have said “Go finish your games first dad !” :P

You’re too young to play Half-Life 3, kid.
