According to Jon St. John – an American voice actor who provided the voice for numerous video game characters, most notably Duke Nukem – Valve is currently working on Defense of the Ancients (commonly known as DOTA) game. Here’s his Twitter post:

Heroes of Newerth is currently the best game in this genre. But i am very curious what IceFrog with Valve will create.

I don’t want to be mean but they should at least change the name. I think there’s an implicit copyright on the name DotA or at least there should be, morally. While the DotA gameplay could be shared and changed by more games, the name should remind only one game, the warcraft3 mod.

Given that, Valve is still buying other people ideas, I really wish to see something new and original coming from them, hand made by them. Actually they are more a publisher with a strong brand that put shadow on their games developers names than a developer.

Also, I don’t know how much a DotA style game is needed at the moment, we had a lot of them recently and in different flavour (Demigod, League of Legends, Heroes of Newerth).

Well, we’ll see (I’m curios to hear the Duke).
