Valve wants Left 4 Dead 3

As Gabe Newell told in last PC Gamer magazine issue Valve Software is going to release another Left 4 Dead game “quickly and unpredictably”…

“I’m convinced that at some point we will do it again” said Newell. Gabe claims that shocking their fans gives them a lot of fun but it’s also very scary. Why you may ask? It’s pretty obvious at this point, remember the fans reaction when Left 4 Dead 2 came out? It came out only a year after the first Left 4 Dead game.

It’s been 10 months “already” since Left 4 Dead 2 release.

    bah, L4D1 is dead now : almost no custom content, one cheap half-campaign dlc (Crash Course), the next one (Sacrifice) will be much more enjoyable on l4d2 (Spitter + Charger, preventing corner camp)

    L4D2 will go the same way : 2 decent custom campaign, two DLCs (The Passing, Sacrifice), no new content (even if it’s really needed to balance the game), 1 year lifespan

    Left 4 Dead could have been the “zombie TF2”, like Plants vs Zombie was the “zombie Peggle” for Popcap, it had a huge potential, we could smell the “cult game” in every corner of the game.

    But Gabe Newell decided to let Chet Faliszek and the Turtle Rock devteam (aka “Valve South”) to do whatever they wanted with the Left 4 Dead IP (after all, it was Turtle Rock’s idea to do a co-op zombie shooter).

    They simply threw away all the promises, all the epicness, everything the community was only starting to build inside the Left 4 Dead universe :
    – new specimen to balance the game (Spitter and Charger were suggested in details to prevent corner camping weeks before L4D2 announcement)
    – new campaigns and game-mode, only waiting a working SDK
    – funny videos/stories around the characters (ex : Louis get his pills)

    If you look at Left 4 Dead (1), what remains ? (in the video game mass-culture)
    – a co-op zombie shooter can be fun
    – fat boomer puking on people = fun
    – Louis gets his pills

    Look for mods for L4D1. Compare with TF2’s prophunt, tf2 ware, dodgeball, boss battle, zombie fortress, etc.

    Go in any chatroom, forum, or IRL, and see what they remember from Left 4 Dead (1). Almost nothing.

    Go on youtube and see how many original/funny videos are about L4D1.

    Look for anything related to the game (t-shirt, goodies, cosplay, remake of the game in a different form (ex : pixel-style like Gang Garrison).

    Left 4 Dead 1 is not epic, it’s not cult, it’s only “yet another good shooter”. Like CODMW2. Like BFBC2.

    I pre-ordered the first one, and now I don’t care about the Left 4 Dead series anymore.

    To me, it’s “one of the AAA games” now, nothing more.

    ps : AAA means “big budget”, nothing more.

    I known already that Valve finished the new ideas with the first half life. The rest of their story is only rely on others works and ideas. And exploiting licenses and community (like Activision).
    They sold a multiplayer game and killed its community the year after making a game that had what they promises for the first game. A game that didn’t needed a total rewrite, just update. They simply ignored the community, as always.

    If a new L4D is released, L4D2 will get a big discount.
    I didn’t get L4D until L4D2 was out, and neither will I get L4D2 before L4D3 is out.

    I played 175h the first L4D and payed it full price, i bought L4D2 at 15€ and played it 9.5hr… so now, i won’t boycott, i just don’t give a fuck.

    btw… Left 4 Dead was released 17.November 2008. Left 4 Dead 2 comes out on 17. November 2009. you can not count ?! 7facepalm
