Steam: New UI and Netflix Sign-In coming soon?

It’s time! Even more stuff is coming to Steam it seems. Someone at SteamDB found a lot of hints in one of the latest Steam Beta releases – the new UI design is not all.

Apps, comics, music, TV shows and movies are on their way. Some of the game icon choices are weird for example an eight-year-old Mirror’s Edge cover so it basically looks like a placeholder image. It may not even be a current Valve artist’s vision, but something an employee downloaded and put up in the files.

The most interesting element is this image, where we can see a Windows desktop. The date on that screenshot is 12/7/2016, and whoever owns this desktop recently downloaded netflix_master_sign-in.gif.

Is Valve trying to integrate Netflix into Steam and it’s Steam Link devices or machines running Steam OS? This would absolutely crash the competition IMO. Recently released Steam beta removed the files which only confirms that their inclusion was a mistake.

Games Rocket is shutting down!

Oh dear, another Steam alternative store, from Germany, is closing later this month. It’s really sad to see another store go in such short period of time. More info below.

“It was a hard decision for us, but Gamesrocket GmbH was liquidated on December 31st 2016. Gamesrocket was founded in October 2010 located in Aschaffenburg, Germany and it was our goal to pass on our passion for games to our customers. Since then we offer a variety of games, software and gamecards.

Over time we’ve established close and trusting partnerships to our publishers and official distributors. It was always a pleasure working with you and we want to thank all our partners for the collaboration.

The bitter truth is that the market and the general conditions haven’t developed like we had forecasted it in 2010. As an official licensed software partner, you receive terms which are not as good as in traditional physical trade. Unfortunately, this hasn’t changed much in the past years. Other international resellers get their codes in digital form easily from PC wholesalers. The growth of the market is determined by EU foreign competitors with aggressive price positioning, who don’t include value added tax to their prices. Many publisher of PC games struggle to approach this issue. These circumstances make it even more difficult to stay profitable with official digital reselling of video games with a registered office in Europe.

In the end, it was a strategic decision to discontinue the ongoing business in its current form. It was a free entrepreneurial decision and current contracts with the employees will be fulfilled. The employees of Gamesrocket were informed at an early stage. We want to thank all our current and former employees for their contribution during the past six years.

Gamesrocket shops will sell until January 31st 2017. Starting on February 1st customers will have the chance to gain access to their download files and create a backup copy of them. This access will last for the whole month of February…

G2A to start selling bundles as one-time purchase or as a yearly subscription in 2017

G2A is going to sell bundles of really cool game titles at low prices in early 2017, you can either subscribe to, or make a one-time purchase in order to receive game bundles of carefully selected triple A and indie game titles for an amazing price. So basically what Humble Store already does with their monthly subscription.

Although the official name for these bundles is still a secret, we can already tell you what to expect – and that is a lot.

Each bundle will contain a few game titles. These games will be specifically and carefully selected every month, and will include well known triple A titles, as well as hand-picked indie games. Each new month means a new bundle – full of different specially selected games.

G2A will give you full disclosure about what games are included in these bundles before you buy them. This is not a random key offer – this is knowing exactly what you are paying for, but getting it for a phenomenal price. We cannot reveal the exact cost yet.

Customers will be able to get the bundle either as a one-time purchase, or as a yearly subscription. Stay tuned for more information in 2017, including titles, prices, and of course, the launch date.

Insurgency switching to Unreal Engine 4!

One of my favorite tactical FPS shooters is switching over to Unreal Engine 4. It’s basically a remake of the whole game. I’m really happy about that because Source Engine is just too old.

Insurgency Sandstorm

New World Interactive has partnered up with publisher Focus Home Interactive to upgrade the game. The best improvement will be graphical, here’s a comparison screenshot of Source Engine and Unreal Engine 4.

Insurgency will get a story mode based in 2003, invasion of Iraq and updated multiplayer experience. No words on beta yet but developers will be taking your questions on Twitch on Saturday, February 27, 20:00 (8PM) GMT. Insurgency Sandstorm coming in 2017.
