G2Play.net selling stolen CD-Keys?

According to SavyGamer G2Play.net is selling stolen CD-Keys…at least for the game called Blood Bowl.

Read the whole story in here (it’s pretty long!)

Another thing about G2Play.net. In the past (like two or a year ago) their prices were really attractive, but since Valve changed the currency for countries around the world G2Play’s prices went up high…I mean it looks like they are trying to rip off some people by setting the price higher than it really is.

I have removed G2Play.net from the alternative shops (approved sellers list) – at least for now.

Edit: CDkey-Game.com was also removed due to this.

Same for me. I think they only angry about the grey re-import of the asian version. Seems to be legal for me. I will report if my bought BB key stopped working.

So that means G2Play isnt selling stolen keys, its only Cyanide banning these keys. Or at least, thats how I understand it

stranded but who in his mind will give his source nobody because they have to earn some money on it if you will now from where they got there keys you will go there where is cheaper

Point is they bought there keys in 3 world countries where games are much cheaper this is legal and not.

It is legal because you got your cd-key which is used only on your computer.

And not because of like you called ‘regional locked games’ all the cd keys pulls are going to different parts of world and it should be used only in this part of world, but the truth is they cant deny you right to buy game in different country

Because of Free Market companies chose to have different prices at different places. Because of Free Market I have the right to buy a product to the best prices offered. Reimporting good is not illegal. German Car industry sells cars to a higher price in Germany than in other European countries. They tried to hinder car dealer that re-import car to germany thus selling them cheaper as the stock price. EU sued and the German Car industry had to pay a hefty fine for violating EU European Free Economic Area Regulation Law.
This rules apply to all goods not only cars.

    3) Cyanide (Blood Bowl dev or publisher, dunno) decided to blacklist ALL cd-keys bought on G2Play, not even waiting to see if it was legal to buy a good (=> a videogame) somewhere and sold it somewhere else to a different price.

=> How much control over a software/videogame dev/publisher should have ? DRM/online DRM can now allow them to limit installation, chose when the initial release takes place, version (censored or not), block some application (like process explorer), etc… Should they fully control the second-hand market ?

    _ _ _

Everyday, we’re buying more and more things online, digital distribution is growing fast, we’re on the Internet, in a globalized world economy, but a company should be able to control its products that much ?

So they can put their offices in almost-tax-free countries, outsource they factory/shipping/packaging in poorer area, buy the DVD plastic case from a chinese factory, use stock exchange to ear money by buying/selling all around the world, but we (consumers) can’t “bypass” their regionalized structure, we MUST pay the price they decided depending of where we buy, customers can’t legally exchange/sell/buy the products they bought ?!

Example, on Steam, we must pay the big fat 50 euro price, AND it would be illegal to get a 50 USD copy from a friend ? (hopefully Steam don’t block gifts but it’s still against the EULA to “buy” games from friends)

Companies decide the price for their products, and decide the price for tax/wages/salaries. We, consumers, must obey and shouldn’t try to outsmart the existing system, just like companies do every single day at the stock exhange ? Bravo Sierra

I read the whole story, and there’s like 5 to 6 “UPDATE :” edits.

So far, it seems several companies like G2Play bought Blood Bowl in asian countries (cheaper prices) and sold them back to european/american customers.

    There’s various “problems” :

    1) You can buy and later sell it to someone, it’s the second hand market (main reason of DRM installing, to stop it). It is “legal”, at least tolerated, so Cyanide should let it go.

See these 2 articles for more information :

    http://www.techdirt.com/articles/20070913/110424.shtml

    2) In the “G2Play & Blood Bowl” case, this is not a gamer selling his games, nor a platform to sell your used games (like ebay), it’s a company buying the game from a cheaper publisher in a country, to sell (~publish) it in a different country, for a higher price.

It could be hard for Cyanide to sell well if Asia has the same price as europe/us, and if the unique price was based on asia tier, Cyanide wouldn’t get enought money (maybe).

Well when they sent me the scan of the Orange Box cd-key the only thing you could read(besides the key) was NUMER SERYJNY which is polish. I dont know the prices in Poland, but stranded might :). Anyway my guess is they just buy where its cheap and sell for little more so they have profit…

Which still gives us the question, where are those keys from? Are they legal? I know that ordinary users don’t give a shit but we cannot recommend something illegal.

G2Play doesn’t tell anyone where are they getting their keys from.

    I buy from G2Play

    2x Orange Box
    1x CoD 5
    1x CoD 4
    6x L4D
    1x Kaspersky 2009
    1x CSS, DoD:S pack
    1x Prototype
    1x Action Figure RE

and maybe some other I don’t know.

I’m just saying if a game developer claims the keys are stolen (or whatever) and that G2Play.net doesn’t have permission to sell them we shouldn’t trust G2Play anymore.

Of course I have bought (only for friends, never for myself) more than 2 keys from G2Play and they worked fine, maybe because the Steam games can be registered only once and are tied to an account? People who bought DIablo cdkeys from them say that their keys are in use (read stuff on the net, google it).

I actually didnt have any probs with G2play. For example I bought the Orange Box key, at first it told me that the key is invalid so I sent them an email and they sent me a scan of that key and it turned out that they typed the key wrong. Fortunately it works fine :)
