Update 10.09.09:
Valve removed Tier 3 and right now we have only 2 Tiers. All countries from Tier 3 were moved to Tier 2.
——————————
Valve divided Europe into 3 2 different zones. We call them Tiers.
Say what? Let us explain.
If you live in Tier 1 you’re paying the most for games on Steam, if you happen to live in Tier 2 you’re paying a little bit less and finally if you live in Tier 3 you’re paying the least. Is that really necessary? Is that fair? We’ll leave that for you to decide…
Check below in which Tier you live in!
Note: The chart above shows €. Tiers system currently applies to Valve games only!
Tier 1:
Albania, Andorra, Austria, Belgium, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Ireland, Liechtenstein, Luxembourg, Macedonia, Netherlands, Sweden or Switzerland.
Tier 2:
Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Croatia, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Greece, Hungary, Italy, Malta, Monaco, Montenegro, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Romania, San Marino, Serbia, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain or the Vatican City (We’re sure the pope is happy).
Tier 3:
Estonia, Latvia or Lithuania
Here’s an example price from the Steam store:
Team Fortress 2
Tier 1: 19,99€
Tier 2: 14,99€
Tier 3: 11,99€
Wait where is UK? :(
United Kingdom is NOT on the list because UK has pounds as their currency, and apparently for Valve UK is not a part of Europe or the European Union.
Fast forward today.
US : Dollars:
Tier 1: The euro equivalent of dollars > US
Tier 2: Lower euro prices, but still > US
Why thank you Steam … NOT.
Yay, they removed my region… now ill start to buy from russian region.
We, in Turkey, pay in USD to Steam, for example, Crysis 2 is 59.99 USD, Team Fortress 2 and Left 4 Dead 2 are both 19.99 USD for us. Our Steam prices are quiet good.
Valve don’t know how to price their games, one of valves flaws.
This is stupid, Denmark uses the danish krone like the UK uses pounds!
Well thank god, Switzerland is in the EU…
OH!
WAIT!
Why pounds for UK? Denmark uses the Danish Krone, and we are still part of the tier 1 euro. Both UK and Denmark have opt-outs of the euro!
Hmm, Different prices in different EU-countries. Apple got slapped around for doing that with iTunes.
Nice of Valve to reward people why live in shitty countries :)
There is still Tier 3.
Estonia is in Tier 2 now, Latvia is in Tier 3 and probably Lithuania too.
Damn, I didn’t know that we are doing so good.
Or maybe, Valve guys were checking out this site and seeing me being from Estonia, changed the tier as revenge :P
Today I just realized how easy and convinent it is to order all my games from Amazon.UK. (From Germany).
Although I like the comfort STEAM offers with a centralized gaming control for your PC, I cannot stand these overprized offers anymore…
Thanks for this site :D
There have been some changes in the tiers. Albania and Macedonia were removed from Tier 1 and added to Tier 2.
Keep in mind that these tiers are only for games created by valve. For the rest it’s up to each publisher
i live in TIER 1
at least Valve CUTS Games that are Payed from Germany. (i mean forced low violence)
FUCK YES TIER 3 OH GOD
