Euro Tiers

Update 10.09.09:
Valve removed Tier 3 and right now we have only 2 Tiers. All countries from Tier 3 were moved to Tier 2.

——————————

Valve divided Europe into 3 2 different zones. We call them Tiers.

Say what? Let us explain.

If you live in Tier 1 you’re paying the most for games on Steam, if you happen to live in Tier 2 you’re paying a little bit less and finally if you live in Tier 3 you’re paying the least. Is that really necessary? Is that fair? We’ll leave that for you to decide…

Check below in which Tier you live in!

Price comparison of each Tier

Note: The chart above shows €. Tiers system currently applies to Valve games only!

Tier 1:
Albania, Andorra, Austria, Belgium, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Ireland, Liechtenstein, Luxembourg, Macedonia, Netherlands, Sweden or Switzerland.

Tier 2:
Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Croatia, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Greece, Hungary, Italy, Malta, Monaco, Montenegro, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Romania, San Marino, Serbia, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain or the Vatican City (We’re sure the pope is happy).

Tier 3:
Estonia, Latvia or Lithuania

Here’s an example price from the Steam store:

Team Fortress 2
Tier 1: 19,99€
Tier 2: 14,99€
Tier 3: 11,99€

Wait where is UK? :(

United Kingdom is NOT on the list because UK has pounds as their currency, and apparently for Valve UK is not a part of Europe or the European Union.

Danish Krone is pegged to Euro, and Swiss Franc was pegged to Euro at the time this article was written, so everything is correct.

Great, live in spain atm, see the tier 2 prices, but to be able to use iDeal I have to pay the tier 1 prices. Isn’t this price discrimination? It seams pretty unfair :/
