Digital money draining machine Steam Wallet is now live

steamwallet

The Steam Wallet has officially been released along with the Team Fortress 2 Mann Co. Store, where players can now purchase items right within TF2.

With Steam Wallet, you can add value to your Steam account using any of the payment methods supported by Steam. Funds in your Steam Wallet may then be used to buy any item available in the Steam store on an in-game store. You can load up your Steam Wallet ahead of time, or wait until checkout. Also, different payment methods can be combined to make a single purchase.
Once you’ve added funds to your wallet, that money will be used by default for subsequent Steam store purchases. But if you’d prefer to reserve your wallet balance for in-game purchases of Mad Milk, Holy Mackerel and Bushwackas, no problem — simply select another payment method during checkout. Your wallet funds will be there the next time you’re ready to shop at Mann Co., or any other in-game store.
TF2’s Mann Co. Store is the first of many upcoming Steamworks in-game stores where Steam Wallet funds can be spent. See the TF2 Mannconomy FAQ for any questions specific to that game. Otherwise, feel free to give the wallet a try for your next Steam purchase, and please let us know what you think.

You can add funds by clicking here: http://store.steampowered.com/steamaccount/addfunds/

 wallet

“Steam subscribers can add funds in predetermined increments”

UK: £4, £8, £18, £35, £70
US: $5, $10, $25, $50, $100
EU: €5, €10, €25, €50, €100

You’ll also need to check out the new subscriber agreement, which states, among other things, that funds added to your wallet are non-refundable and non-transferrable.

So what do you think of it? Does it suck or not? Will you add funds to your wallet and buy wherever you want and whenever you want the game you really want but don’t have enough money at the moment?

Valve games are pretty cheap – http://store.steampowered.com/publisher/Valve

But of course, this may change, when Portal 2 comes out :D

    Also: http://www.next-gen.biz/features/valve-are-games-too-expensive

So they decide to charge the full price of a game ( 49,99€ ) for just a set of items. Such hypocrites, they are the ones who are expensive. Retail stores are almost 50% less expensive and offer returns.

I don’t mind them selling items, but 17,49€ for a hat is just fucking greedy. What are they thinking?!

    0.50€ for a weapon, 2.00€ for a hat sounds about right….

@Amadeus: I heard the hats do drop, but very very rarely, like one in 8000 hours of gameplay.
And the full sets do have drawbacks as far as I remember. o_O

Still, 18€ for a hat, that’s just total bullshit.

You can find everything in-game, except the new hats. Which are required to make sets. The sets gives bonuses and has no drawbacks.

So yeah, everyone will have to buy those hats in order for the game to be equal.

This idea is not new.Infact Gamersgate already have something in prepaid format known as blue coins. They could have cashed on this opportunity by introducing the card system first

I used to love Valve and Steam…. Actually they are trying to ruin a great idea: starting from the $/€ currency fail to this Wallet.
Free MMOs Shops – TF2 (steam wallet) Shop comparision.

    Free MMOs:
There are a lot of free MMOs wich have a real money shop inside: you can buy “premium” or not weapons, items, boost or simply some clothes. Almost everything can be bought. and often some items are not avaible playing.
    TF2:
You can buy everything like in MMOs, but also everything is avaible just by playing the game (anyway I’m almost sure that new 17.5€ hats will have something like 0.001% drop chance)

    Free MMOs:
    They pay server’s fees
    TF2:
Every servers is paid by community – There are not Valve servers…

    Free MMOs:
    There are free!!!!!!!!!!!
    TF2:
    You pay the game!

With the prices they’re charging in the TF2 Store, Valve can no longer claim they’re not the ones setting the prices when it comes to different currencies and locales. According to Mann Co. 1$ is once again equal to 1€.
Way to go, Valve. Way to go.

The Steamwallet might solve some problems for those who buy their games via VPN. Once the Wallet is charged, you cant get problems caused by geolocation (Address declined by cc-company or paypal etc)…at least I hope so. We’ll see…

Would be nice if we could return some of the games we’ve finished or don’t like and had the money transfered in our wallets, something like gmg, tho I know it’s far fetched, I think the main purpose behind this wallet thing is for parents to put money for kids, like monthly allowances for games or something, it’s a necessary evil, gmg has it, gamersgate has it and so on… concerning the prices of the TF2 items, they are way to high, bordering on absurdity. For a freaking hat (a hat!) I can buy three or four cool games with 75% discount.
