Steam: Mobile app update coming in early 2017

According to various media around the globe Valve Software is currently working on it’s Steam mobile app. It appears that in early 2017 you will be able to watch streams of some sort of video materials on your mobile device – documentaries, tutorials, full length movies and even TV shows.

Steam video library keeps on expanding, over the last few months they have added a lot of videos to the library, although it’s limited by region it’s still pretty impressive.

Would you be using Steam instead of services like Netflix or HBO?

Microsoft brings some Xbox One games to Windows 10

Microsoft announced a couple of nice things yesterday, including some games, software and some offers. Check out the list below if you want to know what’s going on!

Gears of War Forza 6 Apex Windows 10 2016

Here’s a quick summary of the event that happened on March 1st 2016:

  • Those who pre-order Quantum Break On Xbox store will get the Windows 10 PC version for free
  • Gears of War: Ultimate Edition is now available for download on Windows 10 PCs (priced at $29.99)
  • Microsoft today announced Forza Motorsport 6: Apex is coming to the PC – Windows 10, fully supporting DirectX 12
  • Minecraft: Windows 10 Edition is going to support Oculus Rift
  • Ori and the Blind Forest: Definitive Edition coming to Xbox One and Windows 10 in April
  • Killer Instinct: Season 3 for Xbox One and Windows 10 coming in few days
  • Xbox team revealed the new updates arriving soon on Xbox One and also in the Xbox app in Windows 10 and Windows 10 Mobile
  • Xbox One to receive future hardware upgrades, I think it means that they are just going to create their own small “Steam boxes”? ;)
  • Universal Windows Apps will allow for games to run on Windows 10 PCs, Windows 10 Tablets and Windows 10 Mobile phones in the future, supporting DirectX 12 and possibly Vulkan

Also check out the gameplay from Quantum Break, it looks really good:

In other news you can stream your Xbox One games to any Windows 10 PC in your local network for some time now. Sony is planning to bring the same experience to the PS4 users. PS4 Remote Play feature is coming to Windows PCs soon.

Valve ignores Windows 10 Mobile

Some of you probably realize that Valve enforced secure trading on Steam by forcing users to use their mobile authenticator if they want their trades to go smooth.

Turns out the app is only available for iOS and Android. All other people have to wait 3 days until their items are delivered to the buyer. There are also Steam Community discounts for people with this app and if you don’t have the app you can’t partake in those.

Steam Rage

I really had hope that someday soon we would see an universal app for Windows 10 Mobile which could be used on phones and tablets – with respective UI designs for each. There is a huge demand on Steam Community forums, here is a random thread with hundreds of replies.

Windows 10 Mobile is installed on 7% of all active Windows phone devices (including my Lumia 640 LTE) and it didn’t even officially come out yet on the older devices.

Thinking that it’s growing market share in Europe would matter enough right? Or 12% market share in Russia (bigger than Apple’s iOS)? Wrong. Here is what Steam support has to say about it:

“At this time we have no plan to implement a Steam Mobile app for Windows phone, but we have made updates to make such of Steam now accessible via your mobile web browser. I’ll make sure the mobile team knows that users like you are interested in the app specific features.”

Poll Time: Did you upgrade to Windows 10?

Hello! Windows 10 came out yesterday. I’m wondering if you guys updated to Windows 10 yet?

I have and I’ve been using it since October 2014 as a Windows Insider. It really is a good piece of software and has some really cool features but it still needs some work. I’ve also switched to Lumia 640 which is also running Windows 10 (beta) at the moment. It’s really nice to have the full experience although the phone beta still needs some bug fixes. Also I can’t stop playing this… vote below!
