Paid Call of Duty: Black Ops dedicated servers

PC players around the globe were aware that Call of Duty: Black Ops gets dedicated servers, but Activision has made them one more surprise. They announced that the dedicated servers are going to be paid and the only way to setup such server is to buy it at GameServers.com (which has exclusive rights for this game) for “only” 10 pounds per month.

Way to go Activision. You just lost a potential client for doing this kind of shit.

    @Amen you’re just plain stupid.

    You can own your own dedicated server (physical machine running 24/7) and host any games on it FOR FREE (you only pay for the server itself).

    So lets say you play Counter-Strike Source, you download the dedicated server files, host them on your server and fucking play even with 999 slots if the game supports it, you don’t pay shit to anyone.

    By forcing gamers to user “official” dedicated servers is fucking pointless. Why would I (from Poland) buy a dedicated server from GameServers.com (possibly in UK or France)? Why would I pay for shitty ping?

    lol you are the one that has no idea what you are talking about.
    Servers cost money, but 10 pounds is a steal i can get 5 vs 5 servers for about 5 euros. That is less then HALF.
    The other problems are you cannot host your own server and there is a monopoly GameServers.com.

    @zoomboom33
    That isn’t true!
    Everyone complained that they couldn’t host servers,no command console,no mods and lots of server providers didn’t have the game available due to EA restricting it to a few SP.
    If you don’t believe me check these links.

    zoomboom33:

    Because there are many BC2 providers, much more servers in more countries and better prices because of the competition between providers.

    BO will have one provider, few servers and they can set whichever price they want.

    BF BC2 used the same type of servers (only paid dedicated), and no one complained.
    But, when Treyarch announced same thing for COD BO, everybody start whining.

    That seems little unfair… :(

    Thats BS
    @Benki (&also @Amen)
    Take cod4. there you could host a listen (and ranked) server this server is hosted on YOUR pc and you dont have to pay anybody. In a listen server you always had to be in the game, meaning if you leave your server gets shut down. Secondly you could create a dedicated server within cod4, as it had a dedicated server tool. there YOUR pc hosts it and also here, you dont have to pay shit. This dedicated server is like the listen one, but you can join and leave whenever you like. All you had to worry about is, that the pc didnt get shut down.
    The issue with BO is, that you cant host your own servers, but have no choice than to buy some.

    I am ashamed of your restricted rationalness.

    Don’t really see what the problem is really.
    I won’t be buying Black Ops, but I thought it makes sense that you’d have to PAY for a dedicated server, just like, I dunno, any other game. I’m not sure about the price but I remember my clan for BFBC2 had to pay more than 10 pounds a month, and they also had “authorized hosts” just like Activision are doing for this game, it’s about trust I suppose. And price has nothing to do with it really anyway, unless Acti own that server host and I highly doubt that.

    Activision can suck a dick for other obvious reasons though.

    You do realize servers cost money, right?
    Do you think in every other FPS game just gives every clan/person their own server for free?
    DURP DURP DURP DURP.
    Everyone pays for their own fucking server, you honestly know nothing about what you’re talking about.

    imo the moh beta SUCKED ass
    And as you may know, dedicated servers cost because instead of charging for dlc (like mw2 did) they now add free maps and give out mod tools

    yea i preordered Medal of Honor also, so see ya on the battlefield. I won’t buy new CoD unless it’s really cheap (5-10€) which we all know won’t ever happen. But i will download the demo for single player :)

    Multiplayer gets cracked (see at AlterIWNET for MW2), everybody gets angry.

    Seems it wasn’t a bad idea from myself to pre-order Medal of Honor instead of Black Ops.
