Hey, Ubisoft.. about the DRM

Well then, we’re getting closer to another Ubisoft-release, namely HAWX 2 and something… interesting was found.

“Internet Connection: A permanent internet connection is required to play the game. ”

Oh, I see, they’re not going to include the giant block of text which was before (the one below), they’re just going to hide some little note about requiring a permanent internet connection in the system requirements. This is most likely the DRM and could be considered a tad bit hypocritical considering their comments about the RUSE-drm.

From https://steamunpowered.eu/ruse-will-not-utilize-ubisoft-pc-drm/:

Aymeric Evennou, Ubisoft senior community developer, stated on the official R.U.S.E. forums: “When R.U.S.E. is released in September, it will benefit from Valve’s Steamworks API to offer the best community experience to players. Consequently, a Steam account and Internet connection will be required to activate the game, as per Steam policy. For this reason, R.U.S.E. will not use the Ubisoft protection. Single player can be played offline.”

Old notification:
A PERMANENT HIGH SPEED INTERNET CONNECTION AND CREATION OF A UBISOFT ACCOUNT ARE REQUIRED TO PLAY THIS VIDEO GAME AT ALL TIMES AND TO UNLOCK EXCLUSIVE CONTENT. SUCH CONTENT MAY ONLY BE UNLOCKED ONE SINGLE TIME WITH A UNIQUE KEY. YOU MUST BE AT LEAST 13 TO CREATE A UBISOFT ACCOUNT WITHOUT PARENTAL CONSENT. UBISOFT MAY CANCEL ACCESS TO ONLINE FEATURES UPON A 30-DAY PRIOR NOTICE PUBLISHED AT http://assassinscreed.com

I’m happy with this (not being a Hawk 2 fan helps sure :D), this way thousands of players will go ape-sht-crazy at their bricked copy and stop buying Ubisoft games.

“Less sales = less money = DRM are dropped ELSE Ubisoft die”

    Victory :D

    @Armada:

Steam generaly gives you a lot of benefits, such as updates on games without needing to look for patches online, integrated chat, ability to download and install games on any PC, no limited installations like SecuROM

If a Steam game isn’t a multiplayer online game it dosen’t need internet acces for anything exept achievements.

But no one has a problem with the Steam DRM?

I only bought Mass Effect once they removed the DRM.
And I refuse to purchase any game infected with that disease. I simply will not support this kind of robbery.

@Zero1: well said and this is exactly what i think! Stay away from Ubisoft games, all of them, and don’t support these greedy bastards.

i wont buy it, actually, i would have bought splinter cell convictions and AC2, but the drm kept me away from it… a “drm free” version of the game made its way to me instead

O god I’m so fucking tired of DRM whining. Let’s see if all those who say ” ohh would have bought it if it wasn’t with the Ubi-DRM” will actually buy it now.

“I’m sad about this development because Nadeo belongs to Ubisoft.”

Didn’t know that! There goes my pleasant anticipation for TM2. :(

I’m sad about this development because Nadeo belongs to Ubisoft. I just hope they wont kill Trackmania 2 with their allways-on-DRM. I guess I stick to TM1 in cause they decide to add UbiLauncher to TM2…

Well when it comes to Ubisoft we have to remember that, you can educate the ignorant but there is no cure for stupid.

I just steer clear of Ubisoft games.
