EA situation in few senteces and why it’s good for us

Here is the whole situation in a nutshell. EA releases their brand new AAA title – Star Wars Battlefront 2. There even is a collector’s edition, goes for $80 (wtf). The game itself has locked content in it (like guns, equipment etc) and requires you to play around 4500 hours to unlock all of it. It’s fucking crazy.

What’s more crazy? You can skip the unlocking part and get all of the unlocks for $2100. You’ve read that right.

So naturally the gamers were furious and it was pretty cool and trendy (and right) to just give back that piece of shit and use their refund optionwhich was suddenly gone.

So basically if you wanted to get a refund you had to wait in line, on hold, for an hour. Internet does not forget and I really hope that all of their competitors won’t pull the same tricks on us, I’m talking to you Valve (mostly), GOG, Blizzard (they’re too good to fuck stuff like that up) and others.

Electronic Arts removed the refund button from Origin

OK it’s been crazy today, Steam launched a lot of new currencies on their platform. GOG apologized for higher prices in Poland and promised to contact developers/publishers to change that (they are higher than Steam’s right now which isn’t quite nice considering GOG is a Polish store).

Anyway it’s been pretty loud on reddit today that EA Games had removed the refund button from their system and if you want to get a refund wait in line… for around an hour (that’s right) to even contact the support team. I don’t quite understand why would they do that but I guess it’s all about the $$$.

Looks like some games are even more expensive on Steam, for example in Israel. Also there was a funny bug on Steam for some guy, he got over $4 000 000 (!) in his Steam wallet after the update. It got fixed by Valve though.

Another thing is that selling Stream trading cards is somewhat broken, you see when you put it up on sale let’s say for $0.03 in USA Steam automatically converts the price to be 0.03zł (in Poland for example) which means it’s cheaper, anyway I’m sure they are going to do something about it because right now you earn less by selling cards in certain regions. At least that’s what I think is happening, not a trader myself.

Something interesting is finally happening, if there’s more I’ll let you know.

Origin blocked in Myanmar (Burma)

I’ve just stumbled upon a very concerning post on reddit. According to the OP, and several topics (for example here and here) on EA Answers, Origin has been blocked in Myanmar.

origin-rage

Check this out:

I live in Myanmar, and I own about 20 games on Origin, and have spent hundreds of dollars on the platform. I’ve bought the full editions of all of the Battlefield games up to this point, with their season passes. I was trying to log into Origin a few days ago, and got a bizarre “Access Denied” message. I googled it, and found that “Origin is no longer available in Myanmar.”

Supposedly EA is blaming this on complying with US sanctions against Myanmar (which is total crap, considering Steam, GOG, and every single other content distribution network is just fine). Additionally, sanctions were lifted on October 7th. Still no access to our games that we bought.

None of us has been offered a refund – just a “sorry, all your games are gone.”

Remember, if they do it to me, they can do it to you too. Don’t use or buy games from Origin. They will take your content away without offering a refund.

I feel like this is something that the entire gaming community needs to know about – I don’t think that revoking access to an entire country’s worth of people’s paid content is something that should happen quietly. PLEASE spread the word about this. We in Myanmar need your help to get our games back!

This really sucks guys, lets hope gamers in Myanmar get their games back asap!!!
