    @Elbart: Maybe, but for a game still on sale for a certain amout of money yes (at least without any law stuff like give it to your family or really really close friends (“private copy”)). But it’s still better to support the developers by buying the game.

    “It doesn’t matter if it has DRM or not, it’s still illegal to multiply your copy of the game to other people.”
    Not necessarily.

    @Pyro Gourmand:
    Nice stuff, but your 2nd point is JUST PLAIN ILLEGAL.
    It doesn’t matter if it has DRM or not, it’s still illegal to multiply your copy of the game to other people. It’s better to encourage your friends to buy thier own copy if they like the game. Like any other game, 15 years old or 15 days.

    aw same bug
    (test2)

    You pay $6, you have :

    1) A legal right to download Fallout 1
    * anywhere in the world (gog.com have no region lock)
    * without any limits,
    * with all the bonus they could get (music, artworks, manuals, etc) and popular mods/tweaks

    2) You can copy the file to anyone (friend, family), there’s no DRM/serial number/CD check

    3) Install it on millions of different computers without having to use illegal/external softwares (you don’t need to get no-cd/keygen/etc or set up dosbox) to make it work (Windows XP/Vista/Seven)

    nb : mods and packs work w/o problems, as the files are installed “just like with the real copy”

    4) If you need help : an official support service and a community (forums) to help you

    5) A place to discuss and share about old games, to discover “good old games” you missed when you were young/not-born yet (half of my purchases on GoG.com were done after learning about these gems on the forums)

    Last but not least :
    6) A place to find a digital “copy” of games you can’t find in your country/online (or only some used and overpriced copies)

    By the way, I bought ALL my games during special deals, paying only 75% or 50% of that small price.

    So yea, it’s “fair” to me, the service (especially the no-drm part) is worth the price.

    Of course, some other sites (sometime) offer cheaper “copies”, but do you really think there’s that much online stores selling legal copies, with all the 6 features I previously mentionned ?

    If so, please provide, SteamUnpowered is the perfect place for that :D

    Also, I guess there’s like 99% of the games sold on gog.com available for free “on the Internet”, with “everything” you need to make them work. It cost nothing. But I won’t do that. Because gog.com provide a good service, to respect devs, and finally, to fight DRM.

    Fighting DRM ?
    => GoG.com and indie devs sells games without DRM, and they’re still successful ? woaw incredible, who would have thought that ?!

    Oh, they’ll say “it’s only old and niche games”, sure.

    “Really? is it fair to pay 5,99-9,99$ for a 15 years old games? you are crazy! :D other sites got them cheaper!!
    And you are right about no DRM, on those wayyy old games”

    Are you saying old games have a lesser value ?* :D

    (*I know you’re not saying that, it’s a way for me to introduce my “price=gameplay value” theory :] )

    Right now I’m playing Fallout 1 (got it from gog.com), and the gaming experience is as good as it was back in the days.

    Any recent PC release cost 50€ ($65) minimum (some cost 60€=$70), and most of these games do not provide as much “gameplay experience” as old games like Fallout 1 (to me, Fallout 1 value is at least at “30€”, while MW2 value is like “20€” or “15€”) – I don’t pay to get “the latest stuff”, I pay to play the game.

    And excuse me, but “back in the days”, Fallout didn’t cost $6 (= 4,5€), the minimum price I can think off would be 30€ (200 francs, before euro)(didn’t count inflation btw), so it’s still damn cheaper.

    So we’re getting these excellent games, for nearly 10% of their release price, with tons of services “around” the game itself, where’s the problem ? oO

    “Tons of service” : basically, No-DRM easy-to-install game files.

    They still see it’s possible to make money without DRM, and that’s really important for the future of gaming (in my opinion).

    ps : I just went to gog.com and guess what… servers are down for maintenance ! haha :D

    ps 2 : they x20 their max bandwidth usage record at launch apparently

    GoG.com might one of the few stores without any form of DRM, same prices for ALL customers (no regional pricing), and as Hamstah said “the most gamer-friendly game store”, I don’t see why it’s a problem here.

    It might be one of the very few online stores out there complying the most with what Steamunpowered was asking from Steam : fair prices for everyone.

    Do you really expect Steamunpowered to only post “The Deals of the Week” news ?

    damn they are very useful, but we shouldn’t forget why SteamUnpowered was born : fair prices for everyone.

    GoG going out of beta simply proves it is possible to work that way, you don’t *need* to charge european more money to be successful, they lasted 2 years and now are releasing a whole new version of their service, *despite* the equal price policy.

    (Ok, maybe regrouping small news together might be better, but at least we got the informations)

    @Faark
    True, it may seem that way, but GOG is still by far the most gamer-friendly game store and, in my book, deserves all the media coverage they can get. You won’t get more down to the ground, gamer to gamer than this.

  11. Faark Avatar

    Oh CMON, stop making “news” for their fcking marketing stunt! They already own half the steamunpowerd-page (HALF? 7 of 9 “news”)

    Didnt you just sayed a few days ago that this website will never work with any game selling website or store?
