The PlayStation 3 version of Valve’s upcoming first-person puzzler Portal 2 features cross-platform play and chat with the Steam PC and Mac versions.
At E3 2010 Gabe Newell came on stage at Sonys press conference to announce that Portal 2 will be coming to PS3. But more importantly than that, it will also be the first console title to come with Valves “Steamworks” package. Valve announced that this would include Steamcloud support and automatic updates, but it seems it’s also enabled something a little more exciting.
Additionally, the PS3 version unlocks the Steam Play version free of charge when gamers link their PlayStation Network and Steam accounts.

GLaDOS may never win a Grammy or make the cut in American Idol, but her (its?) ‘Still Alive’ endgame song is nevertheless counted as one of the geekiest / greatest contributions to the gaming music scene. Now the musician responsible for its composition, Jonathan Coulton, has confirmed that he’ll be penning a new song for Portal, provided that he too is still alive…
Yesterday, the New York City musician confirmed his involvement in Valve’s sequel through a tweet: “Closing the doors. If this plane goes down, the Portal 2 song goes with it. It is in my pocket…”
Since we’ve yet to hear about any Jonathan Coulton candlelight vigils, we can safely assume that his plane landed, and he’s alive and well and months away from debuting a follow-up to this extremely catchy tune:
Far from a one hit wonder, Coulton was dabbling in geek culture well before his Portal track, and has released numerous CDs and downloadable tracks since. His full discography and calendar of upcoming performances can be found at his personal site. The next (great?) Portal song will debut with Portal 2 on April 21st.

Also very good remixes of this song by Victims of Science.
Several days ago, we reported that Portal is now available on Steam for free, in celebration of Valve’s successful port of the game to the Mac platform. Since the game was released for free, it has been downloaded over 1.5 million times. Currently, Valve hasn’t released any data as to how many of these are Mac or PC users, but they did announce that about 11% of Steam purchases since Steam for Mac was released have been by Mac users.
This is huge news for Mac gamers. Especially considering the fact that Mac gamers pretty much didn’t exist until a week ago.
Supposedly, Portal runs just as fine on a Mac as it does on a PC. In fact, the PC version crashes about 500% more frequently than the Mac version. Remember, Portal is still free for both Mac and PC users until May 24th. Even if you don’t have a computer capable of playing Portal, at the very least add it to your Steam account so that it’ll be there when you get an upgrade!

Get it now – go here! It’s FREE until May 24th (it will remain on your Steam account after that)!
Is Steam coming to Mac users? It seems so! Check out this thread (they found some hidden TF2, Left 4 Dead and Portal images and new Steam’s UI Mac buttons): http://forums.steampowered.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1157656
