Some people say it’s bad (no atmosphere, bad animations), some people say it’s great (cool guns, maps). We will find out later today I guess! ;)
If you happen to have a console please take some shots or videos, meanwhile check out YouTube for Left 4 Dead 2 demo gameplay videos.
Scavenge, the fourth game mode to be included in its upcoming zombie thriller, Left 4 Dead 2.
Scavenge mode challenges players to compete in round-based games of up to 8 players (Survivors vs. Infected). The Survivors must battle both the Infected and the clock as they collect gas cans to refuel a generator located in each map. Every can the Survivors pour into the generator scores their team a point and adds time to the clock.
If you are thinking about pre-purchasing L4D2, you should think twice, as you might be yet another victim of Valve’s regional pricing scam.
Previously only differing the price between US Dollar, Euro and British Pound, they now topped it by even discriminating between the European countries.
So we not only have the well known unfair price difference between Dollar, Euro and Pound:
but also differences between european contries:
Germany, France, Netherlands, Denmark, Finland, Sweden and a lot of others pay the high, unfair price of 44,99€ (L4D2)
http://store.steampowered.com/app/550/?cc=de (or /?cc= fr, nl, dk, fi, se..)
while countries like: Poland, Norway, Italy, Spain, Lithuania and a few other – for incomprehensible reasons -, pay a much cheaper price of 34,19€, which is only slightly more than the UK price in Euro!
http://store.steampowered.com/app/550/?cc=pl
Thats a price difference of 10€ or even 20€ less when buying a bundle of four L4D2 copies.
Workarounds:
1.) Gifting cheap games to friends in an expensive, foreign region is thankfully still possible, eventhough it probably won’t be for long, judging from recent developements.
So have a good foreign friend who lives in a cheap priced region gift you L4D2, after sending him the money via PayPal or likewise.
2.) If you can live without the “exclusive baseball bat” weapon that comes with Steam Pre-Purchases: Don’t support the Steam Regime at all and Pre-Order L4D2 on Amazon.co.uk for the cheapest of all prices: £26.99 (29,26€)
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Electronic-Arts-Left-Dead-DVD/dp/B002BSH9J4/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&s=videogames&qid=1254503223&sr=8-2
German users should be aware that L4D2, like 1, will be censored again, when buying from their region.
Buy the game at Amazon.co.uk or have a foreign friend gift it to you, for uncensored Zombie Slaughter.

At a press conference held earlier today in Tokyo, EA took to the stage and revealed that a playable demo for Left 4 Dead 2 will be out next month.
It’s dated for October 27, and that’s all that was discussed. Not which platform that was for, not whether it was for pre-order customers or everyone, which map it was, nothing. That info will have to wait, it seems!

Valve’s Chet Faliszek has said that the reason it chose New Orleans as the location in Left 4 Dead 2 had more to do with the east coat of the US not being used in games much, this making it a fresh locale.
“We still wanted it to be on the East coast, a bunch of us are from the area,” he told Planet Half-Life. “It’s an interesting place that is not covered in a lot of video games. There’s not a lot of video games that go down to the deep south, through the Savanna and New Orleans. There’s a lot of cool gameplay there, there’s a lot of cool areas. You can be in the swamps, the Savanna or New Orleans, it’s a beautiful city.
“It seemed like a good opportunity to go through there, so we jumped on it.”
Don’t forget that the deep south can be a very mysterious place, what with all the live oaks littered with Spanish moss fluttering in the breeze; the humid heaviness of the air; the thick essence of jasmine and wisteria wafting through your nostrils; toothy zombies just gagging to sink rotting fangs into you.
Great place it is.

Some time ago we find out that the Left 4 Dead 2 will have many references to the band Depeche Mode, including their music. The band’s manager decided to explain this weird idea.
It is not difficult to imagine that it’s all about the money. Johnathan Kessler explains that the purpose of implementing the band’s music in Left 4 Dead 2 is an attempt to broaden the audience of their music and to attract younger listeners.
However the strange thing is, Kessler said that there are currently no plans to release any tracks or other stuff on Guitar Hero or Rock Band.

Boycotting Left 4 Dead 2? Think again. Initiator of the whole protest was invited by Valve to their studio (all expenses paid), he could see with his own eyes how the game looks like. The result? He’s delighted.
Valve invited (and paid for flights and hotels needed to carry out this tour) the Steam user Walking_Target to Valve headquarters. They presented Left 4 Dead 2 in its current condition and after that had a bit of friendly chat.
What does the boycott group leader think about the game? Here’s a quote: “The high quality of the game is not in doubt and I am confident that it will be even better.”
What do you think? Is the game really good or is that guy just a sell out?
Valve delivers fresh infusions to its biggest franchises: Left 4 Dead 2, Portal 2 and Team Fortress.
Gabe Newell mentions the Left 4 Dead 2 Boycott group. You can find out a lot about Left 4 Dead 2 and see the new campaign for Left 4 Dead – Crash Course.
Gabe also answers a lot of questions asked on Twitter. Too bad we didn’t know about that…we could have asked about the prices…oh wait, we just did.
You can pre-order Left 4 Dead 2 on Amazon for nearly $45. I wonder how many of you are going to pre-order it? ;)
The game will be released on November 17, 2009 – probably worldwide on Steam and maybe with a demo version few days before.
Left 4 Dead 2 is an upcoming sequel to Valve Corporation’s Left 4 Dead. It will build upon the cooperative first-person shooter gameplay of the original and will be using Valve’s proprietary Source engine, the same game engine as Left 4 Dead. The game made its world premiere at E3 2009 with a trailer during the Microsoft press event, and is scheduled for released for Microsoft Windows PC and Xbox 360.
A new DLC for Left 4 Dead was just announced today!
What will we get (for free*) this time?
The new campaign will give us single-player, multiplayer and co-op gameplay modes. It’s going to be released in September. The campaign fills out the gap between “No Mercy” and “Death Toll” campaign – we’ll see new locations, new voiceovers (by original cast) and exciting finale.
Also there will be some bug and balance fixes as well (like item spawn changes).
You can read more about it on the official Steam page.
