A Letter To Infinity Ward

Dear Infinity Ward,

I’m one of your biggest fans. I’ve been playing Call Of Duty games since the first one. COD4 got more play on my 360 than any other game. Modern Warfare 2 is all that. It’s bigger, it’s better and it’s more addictive. Congratulations on keeping me as a fan. Now that the congratulatory bullshit is over…

While COD4 was great, it had some serious issues. Some minor, some major. I asked some important questions at the behind close door event at E3. Pretty much none of them were answered. What really pissed me off was the fact that you weren’t willing to address the fact that there is no self shadow. You said that it wasn’t a priority. How hard is it to code a self shadow? This may not seem important to you but when you can see someone’s shadow before they see you, it gives you the advantage. If I can see my own shadow, I can tell if I’m going to compromise my location. Yeah, it’s a very petty gripe, but considering Treyarch made 2 games with your COD4 engine and both of them had self shadowing, I have to wonder about your agenda.

Next on my list is noob friendly perks and weapons. I have no issue with making the game casual friendly for those non-hardcore players that like the series. The problem with some of the features of this game is that they can be easily exploited. Case in point, the Noob Tube(grenade launcher). I know this is a real weapon but the problem with it is that any noob can use it to rack up kills. I bitched and complained about it in COD4 and it’s back again in MW2. Not only has this weapon returned, but you are encouraging people to use it because you’ve included a title called ‘Noob Tuber’. So you are aware of the problem, did nothing to fix it and are now encouraging it. Do you play the game? It’s pretty sad when someone sucks so bad that they have to use a Noob Tube when they are 3ft in front of you.

Next on the list, the Thermal Scope. C’mon Son! What happened to going old school and looking for that movement in the grass, scoping and killing? Now all people have to do is look for the bright pink colors and pull the trigger. I know the thermal scope can be countered but why should I waste a perk for noobs?

Increased melee attack distance? I wouldn’t have a problem with this if I could counter it but I can’t. There are now people running around with marathon, light weight and commando acting like Flash from the superfriends. I had 2 guys using this build stab me in the ass 12 times. WTF!?! How do you counter this? Should I now keep a Riot Shield build handy for this?

The issue with dedicated servers doesn’t affect me much because I play on the PS3 and 360. Seriously though, do you know that PC gamers are the ones that made YOU and your game famous? They are the reason you were able to turn Call Of Duty into a multimillion dollar franchise. It wouldn’t hurt you to release a dedicated server update and offer it free for download…would it?

There’s more…What the fuck happened to the maps? Why is Treyarch outclassing you with your own engine? Why did we only get one map pack download for COD4? I hope you plan on doing several map packs for MW2 AND new game modes. Or maybe your busy working on MW3?

Last on my list is party chat. Why in the fuck did you disable party chat for certain modes? If ghostcam was the reason, you guys need a slap in your face. Couldn’t you write some code to just mute mics on dead players instead of getting rid of party chat? In the past week I think I’ve heard the word ‘nigger’ like 20 times. What took the cake was a Canadian teammate talking about ‘cops vs niggers’ and ‘killing indians’. I team killed him with 2 seconds left in the game. Then I had to report him, block him and then give him a bad review. I got tired of doing that in 2007 and party chat saved the day. I can only think you did it because PSN doesn’t have party chat or cross game chat so you wanted to balance things? I don’t know, but it was fucking stupid and I’m tired of the childish banter of unfavorable players in game chat.

Hey Infinity Ward, WAKE THE FUCK UP and get your shit straight. You are one of the top developers in this industry and you are making a buttload of money off of your games. Without us gamers you’d probably be making free flash games for the internet. Throw us a fucking bone we are paying your BILLS!!
