So I figured, after l4d2 got The Passing dlc i had 2 fatal errors. I managed to fix them, so I am not asking for help, rather I'd like to help you guys, if you got the same problem.

 

So I had 2 issues:

1) When launching L4D2, it instantly crashes to the desktop after the Intro movie.

An old version of Metamod caused this problem, so you need to update it here:

http://www.sourcemm.net/mmsdrop/1.8/ The link at the bottom is usually the newest version. Keep in mind that .zip is for Windows (clients + servers) and .tar.gz is for Linux (servers)

This resolved this issue for me.

 

2) When launching a map of l4d2, the game crashes instantly to the desktop.

Sourcemod causes this problem.

At the moment, the only way to solve this problem is to delete the C:[...]/l4d/addons/sourcemod folder.

So yes… all the modded servers are screwed at the moment… If you find out, that there is a newer version of sourcemod which doesn't crash anymore, feel free to post it here.

 

EDIT: The new version of Sourcemod now fixes this problem!

i recommend using the newest link of the 1.3 stable branch, because the developement branch can still have some problems

sorry rad, but that is not right. verifying the cache integrity won't help with this issue.

And yes, the dlc has something to do with it. As I mentioned in my 2 suggestions, only metamod and sourcemod are causing troubles. As stranded stated right, this is not l4d2's fault, nor valves. The developers of source/metamod just have to update their mods so it will work again.

if you never had one of those programs installed, you probably will never get this issue.

The new version of Sourcemod is available and I edited my first post. Both problems are solved now.

with the intro movie… do you mean the actual intro, before you get to the main menu, or the little scene where l4d2 survivors are talking to l4d1 survivors?
 

 

If its in the intro movie, before getting in the main menu, then update metamod:

to update metamod go to [...]steam/steamapps/common/left 4 dead 2/left4dead2/addons (note: backslashes didnt work for some reason, so i had to make normal ones)

delete the metamod folder in there and install the new version of metamod.

If it is a crash during mapload/survivor talkin scene, then you need to update sourcemod.

go to [...]steam/steamapps/common/left 4 dead 2/left4dead2/addons

and delete your sourcemod folder. then install the new one (dont just overwrite the new version over the older one. then all you have to do is to download the plugins you want and install them again.

also, if this doesnt help, try disabling or updating additional plugins, to see if any of those cause the crash
