European Team Fortress 2 League (ETFL2) is about to start its long awaited Highlander competition.
Read more here: http://etf2l.org/highlander/
If you are interested in joining our steamunpowered.eu team (I hope you do), feel free to join our Steam Group. (This is to get you folks together and ease future communication). Please do not be afraid to join and think that you are no-good. Higlander challenge is for public players and introducing them to competitive gaming. I want everyone who is ready to kick ass to join this group and see if we have enough to complete a team and have some serious fun.
Please comment, tell friends etc, and of course join!
Thank you Stranded for posting this news!
Following is my first announcement regarding to this event. This was also posted at our Steam Group.
Hello Friends!
My name is Rasmus (but I prefer to be called by me my nickname "rottencat"). I'm a founder and current administrator of steamunpowered.eu TF2 team which was created for taking part of ETF2L (European TF2 League) Highlander Challenge.
I would like to welcome everyone of you for joining this group. By now, you should already know what ETF2L and Highlander Challenge are. If you are not, please read this: http://etf2l.org/highlander/ and this: http://etf2l.org/2010/08/09/th…..challenge/
I try not to duplicate information which is already available at http://etf2l.org site, but I want to bold one thing: "This tournament is meant for people who are new to competitive play, a competition to find the very best pub team".
For me this sentence says: You do not have to be pro, don't be afraid to join but you have to be dedicated. In fact, if you read rules http://etf2l.org/rules/highlan…..r-rules/ it says:
"2.1.1 Participants: Only players that are new to competitive play or playing in division 6
The tournament is meant for new and casual players. Players that have played in division 5 or higher in season 5, 6 or 7 (or the equivalent in any other league), are not allowed to participate, other than as a buddy. Breaking this rule will lead to penalties for the whole team."
So if we have someone already playing in division 1-5, please let me know. You can still participate, but you are limited to the following classes: Pyro, Heavy, Engineer or Spy and there can be only one "buddy" (division 1-5 player) per team.
But lets come back to basics. In a next few days will help you all to get registered, and we have to start to play together and know each other. Some of you with more experience are "strongly welcomed" to share knowledge and participate in training process. Teams maximum roster size is 14 Players (surprisingly our current member count). As you know already Highlander consists of a team of 9 players, so 5 of us will have to stay as replacement players. Classlimit is 1, so we will have 1 sniper, 1 medic, 1 heavy and so on in our team. How we will choose who will be in final team? We will get to choosing classes later and discuss it together in a friendly way. I want to keep this community friendly and happy, but I also expect our team to be competitive. Do not worry about medals, all 14 will get one if our team takes part of all qualified matches. So even if you are replacement player and somehow will not get a chance to play, you will still get your award :)
It is important to understand that even I'm a administrator of this group, I'm not your boss and it is even possible that I will not be represented in our "team of final 9" if this is for a good of our team. I want everyone to understand that we all have a chance to be in "9", but we have to earn this honor and responsibility. In next discussions and announcements I will let you know how we will achieve this.
Right now, what you should do is to go to http://etf2l.org site and get registered. During registration process you will be asked for your Steam id: which is a numeric value in format: x:x:xxxxxxx
Please use http://steamidfinder.com/ to find out yours. After successful registration feel free to join steamunpowered.eu team http://etf2l.org/teams/10397/
If you somehow cant join, don't worry – PM (private message) your ETF2L nickname and will add you.
More news to come!
Best Regards,
rottencat

Anyway, I can create cool logos and in-game sprays for you guys, record matches, post them on website and stuff like that.
I'm posting news about this group and event on the official SU Steam Group!
Thank you! Im not good in "MS paint" ;) so if you could create us a nice logo so I can repalce this nasty one we have right now at our steam community site, it would be great!
As we already have 14 players in our community and it is highly possible that there will be more people who are interested in taking part, I still want to encourage you to join. If there is enough interest, we can always create more teams.
But please, if you are joining just for medals, please dont join. Remember that to get a participation medal team has to be eliminated from the tournament. You do not get a medal for just signing up.
Implementation of ellimination of possible inactive "players" is on its way, so if you are planning to sign up but not play, it will not work out for you.
Actually Im pretty sure this is not a case here – as we have a great community and TF2 is a lots of fun.
For those who have not registered at http://etf2l.org/ please note:
After you have registered and you are trying to join team, please be sure to choose "steamunpowered.eu (join this one)" team as there are currently
two other "steamunpowered.eu" teams, please be sure to join the one with tag "join this one".
These two other teams are "ghosts" without an owner and I'm currently working on to get rid of them.
If you already registered, please check form here http://etf2l.org/teams/10397/ if you are in our correct team. If you are
not, you have to leave your previous team to be able to choose the correct one.
Sorry for inconvenience.

One of my priorities is to keep normal nervousness and evil nervousness apart. It is normal that during a battle there will be heat. But drama queens and overreacting "führers" whatever how skillful they are should really check their manners, think first and scream later (after thay have turned off their mic).
Also I know some nice and polite guys (in real life) who scream like madman tyrants during a battle. Its fine if you do not take it in heart so deeply. After all – its a war simulator game :)
I meant that when i play for fun i can relax and enjoy the game. But if it's a tournament you're responsible not only for yourself but for the success of the team. and it's a pressure and responsibility. So i'll think, also my experience is very very little. I played this game for 2 months may be, that's all.
@Audioslav3
Pings around 200 are very high for, FPS to my mind
Our current team members are following:
DaTa
Demon Hunter
DiDok
bAndy.UA
gustavoeks
l0wBoB
LTChaosLT
paygar
prawn
rottencat
somebody
stranded.eu
The Werewolf
zaglis
Highlander rules say:
2.1.4 Maximum roster size: 14 Players
This is why I had to left out one community member who was #15, I`m sorry :(
But do not worry. You all still have a chance to participate. How?
Soon
we will have practice sessions coming, everyone from this Steam Group
($team_Unpowered_TF2) will be notified via announcements and are invited
to take part of training sessions. Now please note: I do not promise
anything, this is not a rule, but…
… people who are actively
taking part of most trainings MIGHT have a chance to be to get an
invite to join the team. Team members who take actively part of
trainings have a better chance to be selected one of the 9 classes.
Remember, TF2 Highlander is a battle between 18 payers (9 on both
sides), we have team of 14 where 5 have to stay as replacement players. I
will try to give an opportunity to play for all our team members at
least in one match. But the rule of thumb is: if you take part of
trainings – you have a better chance to be selected in final. If you do
not show up at trainings, and there are others who show more willingness
to participate, there is a slight unfortunate chance for you to be
replaced. I would hate to do it, and I hope it will not be a case, but
for a good of our team I just had to tell you that.
Everyone -
team members and community members – please keep yourself familiar with
announcements. If our community reaches 28 members and there are
additional 10-14 players who are interested in taking part of Highlander
Challenge, why not to create a second team (steamunpowered.eu #2) and
train and fight together!?
So heads up and happy fragging!
rottencat
worrying community member who was left out from the team list. It seems
that some early members of our community thought that joining our Steam
Group = joining the team, even thought this Steam Group was created for
information only and I instructed everyone of this group to go and
register yourself at etf2l.org
This is why Im asking you to …

….. READ MY ANNOUNCEMENTS MAGGOTS!!! :D
(sarcasm)
Well, today is a good day!
steamunpowered.eu #2 is created
http://etf2l.org/teams/10644/
and all who have not realized to go and register themselves at
http://etf2l.org/ why not just go and do it NOW!
You can join
yourself or ask me to add you, just keep in mind that the new team`s
name is "steamunpowered.eu #2" nothing else, nothing similar.
We have 2 members already so, please fill it to the minimum of 10 people or maximum of 14 people.
Good luck!

Dont worry so much about it. This tournament is for noobs, and with your BFBC2 rank 44 you look like you know about FPS

Our second team Steamunpowered.eu #2 has currently only 3 members and they would be very grateful if you join. Dont be so shy :)
Feel free to contact me over steam and I help you to get registered and so on.
When you guys have a training I would like to join you as a sparing partner.
What are the settings for the games? Random crits,-damage, sv_wait_command_allowed 0 sv_pure 2?
When I play compentive I don't mind random crits and damage variation but sv_pure 2 and sv_wait_command_allowed 0 is a must.
No scripts and fucking wallhacks or it isn't a real compentive skill match.
Highlander rules are here they do not mention about these settings though.
First training will probably take place next weekend (21 and/or 22 of August). Soon I will post it as an event at our Steam Group as well.
Current teams are following:
team 1 – steamunpowered.eu (complete)
team 2 – steamunpowered.eu #2 (recruiting)
Server: 213.108.29.129:27030
Server password: test2010
Map: cp_gravelpit
Event duration: ~1hour or until there is enough players.
ETF2L
announces all times in either Central Europe Time (CET) or Central
European Summer Time (CEST). And so do we. This and all future events
will be announced in CET.
You can see current CET time from here: http://www.world-time-zones.or…..r-time.htm
PS:
Everyone from this group is welcomed to join server whenever you like,
but as this is a private server, there will probably not be enough
people in it. Everyone who is interested in testing their pings and
chat, is also welcomed to jump in to our server tomorrow (Friday) on
20th Aug 8PM (CET) and if we see if we get enough people we might even
play :)
1) What is your favourite class?
2) Other classes you agree to play?
3) Class you do not want to play?
This questionary is created to get the idea of overall class-players we have.
