No sorry, we don't want to milk the Europeans on the prices. In fact, we don't decide the prices, its totally in the hands of our partners, so they have decided what price we should charge. Trust me, we would like to see lower prices over all games, but its not in our hands.
As for European price difference… usually why its some what higher than the US prices is that we have to add VAT which the US doen't have.
Thanks

Okay.
Let's check out Wikipedia page http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/V….._added_tax
And then let's do some math.
Trine costs $19.95, €19.95 & £14.95, lets round them up to 20 and 15.
In US is tax 0-13%, so 20$ + 13% VAT= 22,6, rounded up to $23
$23 = 18€ = 16£. So looks like UK price is almost acceptable, but EU price is higher.
Lets take more valuable game, Batman: Arkham Asylum
In GamersGate it is €49.95, in Steam $49.99, £29.99 and 49,99€. Let's round them up to 50 and 30.
So 50$ + 13% VAT = 56,5$
56,5$ = 40£ = 44€
Steam price comparison script says like that:
US: $49.99
UK: £29.99 (2% lower)
EU: 49,99€ (47% higher)
I don't believe that there is somewhere 47% VAT.

And I am sorry too.
Please do not take this personally.
We all greet you warmly and hope that you join our ranks and try to solve this price-problem too. Because this high, unfair pricing leads to piracy and lots of good stores (like GamersGate :)) can't make good profit.
It is not normal to sit and wait for weekend deals to get a game for price, what is in US or UK normally without discount.

haha yes we are very aware of the price issue. we would like to see lower prices all the time, but our partners (publishers and developers) are in charge of the prices for us. we want to see lower prices, specially since digital download allow it. But the publishers what to keep their pricepoint and keep regular retails happy.
We always push for lower prices since we know we will sell more games that way ;) but as todays market look we can't lower them :(

as of today we only work with 3 currency's, £ / $ / €.
Its alot of work to work with many individual currencys and we are a small team. Hopefully in the future we will have more options.

Hungary is a member of OECD, NATO, EU, V4 and is a Schengen state. So you belong to EU, this means your currency is € :)
Btw Daniel, please enlighten us, why can't you sell games with US price in EU?

we have decided that people in Europe feel its better to pay in a currency that they use. We just recently changed currency in UK to Pounds. We could have it in dollar, but then the price in the end should be the same, as we would have to translate them.
We think that people are more likely to buy online if the currency is what they use and are used to.
as of today we think we have the Three most important once in place. Maybe we will add more in the future.

Relax, lackoo. In my country is too local currency but I am not so disturbed about store prices noh in EEKs.
Anyway. Back to my question.
Is there written in contracts with distrubutors that you must sell games to European customers with price in €?

We have it in contract with some. But the main villam here is actually Retail, who holds quite a lot of power over the pricing. Retail still stands for a huge part of the actually sales and the pricepoint of the games.
With digital the price could be lower, but then Retail would go banans and demand the same. Retail buy in stocks which they have to get rid off. So thats why they can discount many games so hard. And some stores chose to sell new games at a loss (called Loss-leader).

Okay.
I understand. In my country there are too unbelieveable high prices on some games that are sold with low price now even by ditributor. Like Mass Effect costs in EA store 15£ (now discount price 10£) but in our retailstores ca 40£ :S
So you practically depend on retailprices to go low, then you can lower your price?
And another question. Does game distributor (the other side of the contract) even care do you sell it for US citizen, EU citizen or it doesn't matter to them?
Thanks for the answer!

Usually we talk to our partners and tell hem to lower the prices, but its not our decision. As for the EA Store, EA owns it and they take 100% off the sales there, so it is in their interest to maximize sales from their own store.
For the publishers today Retailerstores are more important than Digitalstores. Therefore if we on the digital side gets better offers/prices retails will demand lower prices and it can screw up the pricepoint of the games. Lowering it to much to fast for some people.
Regarding if we sell it in US or EU… Sometimes it matters, sometimes it doesn't. Its pretty much up to the contracts and the rights the publishers have. Some partners have Worldwide rights for a title, but they still want to know how many units we sell in each territory for their sales people in each territory. Some publishers only have digital rights for say North America for one title, and another publishers have for Europe.

So.
Is there any chance that you can provide to EU users more (free or with discount) BlueCoins for some items that are priced outrageously unfair?

Hi,
I will support your site as much as we can.I just bought 5 copies of torchlight so that me and my friends can play.
About the pricing I know its the distributors and publishers charge higher in EU as they have high standard of living and plus they earn also more.
PLease check your PM also.
Hopefully you will beat steam someday but they have a first move advantage my buddy
