Holly shit WoW? Now I really disappointed :p. On the other side you had many comic like Steam avatars, so I guess the graphic style fits you.

As a real man, ;) I can only play a mature MMO like Age of Conan. Where I behead my enemies, piss on their corpse and collect the panties of the whores I fuck. :D

A few pictures I took yesterday to show to a friend.

Checkout the Combat Fatalities Moves video on Youtube. It's bloodbath.

hehe thats why i have never played any MMO… yet :). I'm not going to start anytime soon, but if i do it will be probably Lord of The Rings Online, cause i just love Tolkien's world. Lately i bought myself Hobbit or There And Back Again (book) and when i read it i will buy Lord of The Rings trilogy too :)

Yeah Lord of the Rings the complete book is awesome, and you can read in it for years :D.

I read it twice during my army time when I had 11 hour train rides from and back forth to my home city and barracks.

We were just like really bored the other day and I said "lets try WOW". There's a 10 day trial to try the game for free but it's limited (no trade or party) so you gotta buy it to get all the good stuff, we did get 30 days pre-paid and so far it's pretty fun and even works on my netbook while I'm "working".

LOL, if you guys wanna try it just go to eu.battlenet.com and get your free trial. The game downloads 30mb client and you're ready to go (the rest downloads while you play, there's no lag).

Now back to "work".

Paying monthly isn't that bad. For me it's actually cheaper to play Age of Conan than buying games.

I pay at average around 10€ each month, but when I buy a newly released retail game at a UK shop I pay around 25-30€. Since I usually play a MMO for a couple of months, I end up saving money. I will not buy my next game before fall I guess.

I only played Age of Conan and Ultima Online yet, but both are very like a "single-player" RPG. You follow a story, do quest, level up and collect items. Like in Dragon Age, but instead of your party members being NPC's they are real people. Which is a lot of fun if you are social person.

Also MMORPG's are huge. It took me 80 hours to finish Dragon Age. It will take me maybe 200 hours to see 3/4 of the world. But you should only play MMO's if you are a more consistent player. If you like to play a game from the beginning to the end. Because you have lliterally to conquer the world and you can't do this in a day. :)

If you get rather quickly bored with games avoid MMO's at all costs. I have friends that have more 100 games in Steam but only played each for not more than 6-12 hours before quitting.

So if you get quickly bored and need a new game you should instead consider a http://www.metaboli.co.uk/ subscription. You pay a monthly fee like in a MMO, but you can play every game they offer unlimited. If you play a game on average only for 10-15 hours, this service may cheaper than buying games. Even compared to the weekend deals offers.

To pay for playing online is a bad habit! Wink  It's a clear message to greedy game developers that gamers are ready to pay. I paid for the game. That's enough. I should not pay for anything else!

I am afraid very soon we will pay for playing online fps games, like console boys do Cry

You can't compare MMO's to normal games. Because MMOs are huge.
Normal games don't have the same amount of content like MMOs have. Beside the development of a MMO never stops. The game keeps growing and become bigger each month. Dragon Age is good exsample because the combat system
it very MMO like, but the content of the game is maybe less than 10% of Age
of Conan and less than 2-3% of WoW.

Also don't forget you don't play a MMO alone on your computer at home with yourself but with thousands in cases like WoW with million of people. This requires a huge amount of hardware for the servers, the bandwidth which cost a lot alone. Know what the trickiest part about maintaining a MMO is? The database. You have to keep track of every character, every item and when, where and why he acquired it. All data must be processed by the server to avoid manipulation.

It's literllay terrabites of data that need to be process and protected form loss in real time to avoid corruption.

Maybe there is clarification need what a MMO acutally is.
I recommend to you the Wikipedia entry. Smile

WOW! Thanks for such a thorough explanation! I never played MMO that's why never knew all this details! But i still a little afraid. I remember what was rumored that the idea of (damn forgot that name, hadn't played it since bc2) the mw 2 matchmaking system was inspired by battlenet and WOW success where people were willing to pay for playing online. And it was a first try to develop a net for FPS games where people would pay for playing.

oh stop the bullshit propaganda already.. like MMO is a good thing to anyone playing it..

the maintenance might cost a lot of money but it never will justify the amount of money each player needs to spend every month or so. the producers and developers are making way more money than they actually deserve.. problem is that this stupid flock keeps paying them like it doesn't matter..

in the end.. all those who don't pay monthy fees now will eventually do that because future games will be inspired by idiots playing WoW.

shame, everybody that supports this kind of marketing is dooming the gaming industry
