Microsoft encouraged Polish players to buy original games (without multiplayer support and Live features) and stop modding their consoles. XboX players who are responsible for the revolt-ish website contacted Microsoft Poland and…
Here’s what the kontrakcja.pl site owner posted on their site (translated freely by me):
“We’re after talking to Microsoft Poland. (…) We live, we are well and continue to attack! It turns out (which was already a little known, but now we know for 100%), Microsoft Poland has nothing to say on the presence of the Live in Poland. Well ok, since they do not someone else decides, and now to that “someone” will turn.
How do we do it? First of all – along with Microsoft Poland. They promised to help players find the right contact! In few days we’ll put a set of materials directed to the people actually responsible for the Live and it’s absence and screwing players.
For the first time, we the players will create a raport. From the moment we pass the materials concerning Live absence in Poland to Microsoft, they will have 30 days to respond. Exactly after the 30 days we will see if Microsoft’s Poland word is worth anything, as well as Redmond to see what they have to say. Give them a chance – if the response is poor we won’t get anything at all then we will take this action to a next level. We must exhaust all possibilities and that’s what we do.
Also we have to go and change the graphic layout, English version of the site (if we leave the topic to the world, we must speak their language, otherwise they won’t understand), and finally WeWantLive.com address.
What else is going to change? Nothing! We want to continue what you wanted – Live in Poland, we still have the same arguments (see section “Important Questions”). (…)”
I can’t wait to see how it all turns out! :-) If you want Live in your country as well simply contact those people and try to contact Microsoft too.
Some really interesting stuff is going on in Poland right now, Microsoft started a really weird action in which they promote the original games for XboX 360…but XboX Live service (and Games For Windows Live) doesn’t work in Poland which is absurd because Polish gamers pay for their games the same amounts of money like any other nations do. Few people didn’t like the whole action so they made their own action, read about it below – written by Kuba Pilecki:
We would like to inform you about our action, that started recently due to the statement of Polish department of Microsoft, responsible for promotion of Xbox 360 in Poland.
We have started a project called “Nie sprzedaję wybrakowanego produktu – nie kradnę (I don’t sell partially functional product – I don’t steal from my customers)”, which was a reaction to an action started by Polish Microsoft. Our project was originally meant to be an answer to the action organized by Polish department of Microsoft, which was against hard-modding of the consoles and the piracy. Because one of the representatives of Microsoft advised, that the main reason for a LIVE subscription being unavailable in Poland is due to a piracy, we’ve decided to react. Now we are planning to start an international project called “We want LIVE”.
As the users of the original versions of the games for Xbox 360 console, we didn’t like the fact, that somebody was insinuating that because Polish gamers use illegal software, there will be no LIVE available for us. We do not agree with suggestions, that that is the case. We do not believe that the Polish gamers are responsible for lack of LIVE in Poland. We think, that after few years of waiting for the start of that service in our country, after dozens of promises
saying “wait one more month” – the time we’ve given is over. And that’s mostly thanks to the words of Mr Kuba Mirski.
You can now buy several Games For Windows Live games using the official Microsoft Games For Windows Live application. The prices are in dollars which is ok but they aren’t really very different from other stores around the globe. Check out the Microsoft store!
Microsoft has announced that on December 15th, Games on Demand comes to Games for Windows Live, which means they are going to start digitally distributing PC games.
The Xbox 360 Games on Demand program has been doing well enough, and services like Stardock’s Impulse and Steam have already proven the viability of the digital download store model, so now we’re getting Games on Demand for Games for Windows Live.
"With Games on Demand, we didn’t just want to create a cut-and-paste version of existing digital distribution services," said Mike Ybarra, general manager of LIVE Engagement Services. "We challenged ourselves to deliver an integrated platform that takes full advantage of the unique capabilities offered by the LIVE service. Our goal has always been to create a seamless online gaming experience for the Windows community, and Games on Demand is a great step toward that end."
The main difference between Games on Demand and something like Steam is the use of Microsoft points to purchase games along with actual cash money, but it’s certainly a start. If they can keep prices competitive, they could be on to something.
Service’s launch lineup will include Resident Evil 5, Red Faction: Guerrilla, and Battlestations: Pacific, along with Live-enabled versions of popular downloadable titles like World of Goo and Osmos. If those aren’t enticing enough, there’s also a free Live-enabled version of Tinker, the Windows Vista Ultimate Extra exclusive for those willing to download the Games for Windows Live client when the service goes live on the 15th.
You can download the Games for Windows Live client at Microsoft’s official website.
